Enjoy the best Hyderabadi biryani in the UAE at Deccan Delight

The dishes served at the royal courts of Hyderabad in India were a quaint amalgam of Turkish, Mughlai and Arabic influences but the final preparation was quintessentially Hyderabadi.

Purists indulging in Hyderabadi food, for instance will swear by the uniqueness of their biryani, a spicy version full of flavour but quite different from the spicy biryani variations that many southern Indian states claim as their own.

The same goes for haleem, that rich paste of lentils, wheat and meat. Seen in various avatars across northern India, the Hyderabadi version that uses the same basic ingredients is still a standout.
Over the years, many restaurants have tried to stake their claim on authentic Hyderabadi fare but few have truly mastered and fine-tuned their offerings to meet the requirements of discerning clientele and in as little time as Deccan Delight has. This UAE-based Indian restaurant that started operations in Ajman in 2018 and which recently launched a new branch in Sharjah, Al Nahda this year, came to fruition through the efforts of a few friends.
Hailing from Hyderabad and currently residing in the UAE, the founders of Deccan Delight are also self-confessed foodies, a fact amply reflected in the delicious food on offer at the restaurant.

Pure ingredients, soulful fare

Keeping the menu selective has allowed the brand to specialise in a dish that made Hyderabadi cuisine so popular in India and the world, the biryani. Deccan Delight arguably offers some of the most flavourful portions of Hyderabadi mutton and chicken biryani available in the UAE.
Simple and pure ingredients have never tasted so good, coming together to provide a symphony of flavour on the plate with aromatic rice and succulent portions of meat complementing each other with the help of spices that’s all part of a secret family recipe passed down through generations.
And it’s not just the biryani that makes restaurant visitors go weak in the knees.


The Deccan Delight menu is a smorgasbord of popular dishes from the region with chef recommendations including the Patthar Ka Gosht, essentially lamb slices sprinkled with pepper and tenderised with papaya that are marinated with spices and cooked to perfection on a stone slab over a coal fire.
The haleem at Deccan Delight is a masterclass in the art of slow cooking with pounded wheat and succulent mutton cooked for hours in a special blend of select spices and herbs, topped off with cashew and fried onions. Even its tea is special with the Dumdaar, as the name goes, packing a punch with spices and select ingredients from the royal kitchens of Hyderabad providing a truly special brew. From a 200sqft shop in South Delhi to stores in Dubai and Singapore, how Ferns N Petals recorded Rs 360 Cr annual turnover


 



It all started in the 90s when Vikaas Gutgutia wanted to gift a bouquet of flowers to his girlfriend when he travelled from Delhi to Kolkata. And he was both surprised and let down by the lack of options then.
I was brought up in Vidyasagar, a small village in Bihar. To pursue further studies, I moved to Kolkata and also helped my uncle in his flower business. I developed my trading skills there and came to know a lot about flowers. When I came to Delhi and wanted to gift my girlfriend a bouquet of beautiful flowers, I was left disappointed. There were very limited options available and that too of poor quality," Vikaas tells SMBStory.

This incident led him to study the flower market in Delhi, and, to his surprise, he couldn't find a single place that sold a diverse range of flowers. While local florists provided a limited option of flowers, there were no standalone shops or delivery options dedicated to flowers. The bouquet design often lacked imagination, and with no better alternative, people had accepted this standard of gifting. 
Smoking out the need for meticulous professionalism in the flower gifting industry, 50-year-old Vikaas decided to plunge into the floral market with Ferns N Petals by using his initial trading experience in the business. 
In 1994, Vikaas opened Ferns N Petals in a small 200 sqft shop in South Delhi. In 25 years, the company has grown into one of the largest gifting portals in India.
I didn't have enough funds to start this business but I had a firm belief in my vision. I contacted one of my friends in Kolkata and discussed the idea with him. He supported me and helped me with an amount of Rs 2.5 lakh to start the venture," Vikaas says.

Sowing the seeds for Ferns N Petals

The initial few months were challenging for Vikaas when he had to grapple with extreme weather conditions and the perishable nature of flowers. However, his knowledge of flowers helped him overcome a lot of obstacles.

He says,
"My shop was located in a prime locality of Delhi, which engaged a lot of customers. Since there was no other air-conditioned store for flowers that had an engaging ambience besides beautiful varieties, the idea was appreciated by customers."
After gaining prominence with his first store, Vikaas expanded to other areas of Delhi. He believes that successful execution of the idea is what separates the dreamers from the entrepreneurs
Today, Ferns N Petals outlets are seen across India, with the company pioneering the concept of the organised flower market in the country.

Branching out

Vikaas was determined to provide Indian customers with the highest quality and the widest variety of domestic and exotic flowers, but he also recognised the need to reinvent and evolve to stay in the game. This is why Ferns N Petals forayed into the wedding business in 1996 and got his first wedding decor assignment. 
My objective was to provide a first-in-India concept in flowers, and focus just on retailing would have made the brand sooner or later stagnant. Hence, I quickly learnt the trick of decoration and entered the segment." 
In 2017, the company also stepped into a separate venture - FNP Cakes 'N' More. Recently, Ferns N Petals entered the FMCG business as well, by launching its own mineral water brand by the name of FNP Water.
Today, Ferns N Petals has 300 outlets and a presence in 120 cities across India. It delivers across 170 countries worldwide, holding the distinction of the largest network in the flower delivery sector in the world. 
The company records an annual turnover of Rs 360 crore with a presence in Singapore and Dubai too. The brand has made 6.1 million deliveries so far.

Making demands meet

Ferns N Petals works with flower suppliers from all over India, but mainly from Maharashtra and Karnataka. Roses, orchids, lilies, gerberas, daisies, and many more seasonal flowers are customer favourites. Adding more to flowers and expanding its reach, Ferns N Petals also offers gifting items for special occasions like rakhi, Diwali, Valentine's Day, and more. The company also has 10 wedding venues (including one hotel) in Delhi NCR to offer spaces to host social and corporate gatherings.
Today, there are 12 verticals under the Ferns N Petals umbrella, including FNP Retail and Franchising, FNP E-commerce - India and UAE, FNP Cakes 'N' More, FNP Gardens, FNP Weddings and Events, FNP Floral Touch - UAE, FNP Gardens, WDH (Wedding Design Hub), Flowers 'N' More, FNP Flagship, FNP Water, and FNP Media.
Vikaas says that Ferns N Petals commands one-third of the organised flower market in India and is one of the largest chain of wedding venues in Delhi-NCR. He adds that the unique part of the business is the lack of absolute competition; the brand enjoys a monopoly. 

Of thorny issues and blossoming milestones

Along the way, the brand has had to overcome several operational challenges, the biggest one being the logistics involved in delivering fresh flowers under hot weather conditions. Vikaas says that since there is no institute for training florists or certifications in flower decoration in India, he also faced issues while working with the small entrepreneurs of the company's franchise stores.
But ironing out the kinks, Ferns N Petals has been helping its customers celebrate their special moments with flowers and gift items for 25 years now. Some key milestones in the company's journey include:

Shedding light on the future plans, Vikaas tells SMBStory that the brand is in the process of unveiling a couple of five-star hotels and expanding more into Tier I and II cities. Ferns N Petals is also planning to launch an IPO soon, Vikaas adds. 

The journey has certainly has been no bed of roses, but Ferns N Petals has managed to create a brand that has now become an household name in India. In the current financial year, the company is expecting to cross Rs 500 crore turnover.

When was FlowerAura incepted and tell us about the journey of FlowerAura?

We started FlowerAura with the aim of changing the flower gifting in the country, and started in 2010 when online gifting had just started, andflowers as a category was really unstructured. We brought in technology and processes to deliver the gifting experience which customers were looking for. Also, over the years, we have added categories like cake, plants and customizedgifts. Currently we at FlowerAura are on a mission providing thoughtful and expressive gifts to our customers, which can be delivered same day. 

How is the gifting industry evolving from the retail viewpoint?

The gifting industry has been evolving on three fronts in India:personal gifting, corporate gifting and festival gifting. Personal gifting market is coming online, we live in a world of internet and speed people want instant gratification. So they also want gifts to be delivered the same day. So,personal gifting is moving towards faster deliveries. Corporate Gifting is also growing rapidly; it is being used by corporate to be in the mind of their customers as well as a tool to retain employees. According to the leading management consultants Technopak, corporate gifting industry in India is estimated to be 12,000 crore and is growing at 200% per annum.Corporate gifting contributes to 20 per cent of the Rs 33,500 crore India's gifting market. Festival gifting has always been a part of our culture, but with growing nuclear families and people moving out to metro cities, the demand of online gifting has raised.

How is FlowerAura adapting itself with the consumer demand & behaviour?

At FlowerAura, we have a customer first approach and understanding these trends we have started company-owned fulfilment centers in metro cities. These help us to take gifting to 3 hours delivery and we are focusing on taking this to 90 minutes.

What makes you different from your competitors?

At FlowerAura, we are online first company, and our focus is on delivering customer experience using technology. We have a technology in place which even a florist can use to deliver a great customer experience. 

We have company-owned fulfilment centers in major cities, which help us to deliver great customer experience in less than 3 hours. Our fulfilment centers has a florist section where we make our bouquets;a bakery where we bake our cakes; and a small nursery for plants.

What are the upcoming trends that you can foresee in this industry?

We are seeing a surge of exotic flowers as gifting options. People are looking for flowers that can stay longer. Plants as gifts is one big trend that we forsee. Living in these time demands awareness to nature and plants automatically become a good option.

How many franchise outlets you have and how many you are planning to open by 2020?

Currently,FlowerAura has around 15 outlets in India and we are planning to open 9-10 new outlets by 2020.

How is FlowerAura planning to deliver personalised gifts in a same day?

We are planning to start personalisation on the same day by focusing on technology we are building technology, which could help us in mass customisation. Also, we are working with hyperlocal logistics model to deliver this to our end customers.

What are the challenges you see in the industry?

Perishability of our gifts requires very delicate handling of our products and requires specialised delivery and logistics. Changing this requires a lot of capital and currently no player is investing in this area.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Gifts and Flower Guide



One new element to Fire Emblem: Three Houses is that of Gifts. There are many ways to raise your Support Level with your class and other characters, but one of the most reliable methods is to simply give them Gifts. 




While you can give any Gift to (almost) any character, each character will have a preference for the type of Gifts they like. Sometimes a Gift will be useless and sometimes gain you nothing at all, sometimes a small Support increase (shown by an icon with a single up-arrow), and sometimes large Support increase (shown by an icon with two up-arrows). 




Talk to a character to give them Gifts during Exploration.
Gifts can be obtained either through Quests, or they can eventually be purchased. Starting in the 9th Month of the Fodlan Calendar, two shops will open up that sell Gifts to Byleth. You can buy one of each type of Gift, once-per-month. A third shop opens up with more Gift items after the timeskip.
Below we show which characters like which Gifts the most, that is, the Gifts that will give them a large Support bonus (two up-arrows). We show this in two different ways:
  1. By Gift Item. Use this list if you have a Gift in your inventory and you want to know who to use it on most effectively.
  2. By Character. Use this list if there is a character you want to gain Support with and you need to know which Gift items to use.
Finally, there are Flowers. Flowers are a type of Gift item and work exactly the same way, except these can never be purchased. Instead, Flowers are gained by planting them at the monastery greenhouse, and then subsequentially harvesting them the next week. As Flowers are a bit more random, we list these separately from the other Gift items.
Note: There are some characters you cannot give Gifts to. This includes the House Leaders of the other classes, Hubert/Dedue/Hilda (whichever is not in your class), and some other storyline or minor characters.

Flowers are obtained by planting them at the Greenhouse.
Flowers can never be purchased. These are obtained semi-randomly by planting flowers at the greenhouse and harvesting them the next week. Because these cannot be purchased at will, we list these separately from the other Gift items above.
